iPeople SC Solutions is recruiting a Hostel Caretaker to work for our client in Hackney and surrounding areas.

The successful post holder will carry out cleaning, minor repairs and maintenance at any of our temporary accommodation sites.
 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the management team and make valid contributions to the development of the Service, which is based on customer satisfaction, best value and within current policy and procedures.
  • Visit the accommodation as directed/allocated by the Hostel Management officer or Hostel Management Team Leader.
  • Responsible for checking the cleanliness of rooms and all communal areas and remedying any faults, carrying out minor repairs and maintenance and ensuring all repairs are undertaken promptly and to the required standard.
  • Be responsible for general duties in respect of hostel accommodation which include cleaning, minor maintenance, interior and exterior painting and security of the building.
  • Check fire alarms, firefighting equipment and emergency lighting as per relevant regulations, ensure any security equipment is regularly maintained and monitored and respond immediately to any Health & Safety issues.
  • Responsible for carrying out room inventories and dealing with any complaints regarding noise nuisance.
  • Responsible for informing managers of all non-occupation, abandonment and unauthorised occupation and storage of residents’ possessions in the event of eviction, abandonment or non-occupation, also ensuring that keys are collected from those residents who are required to leave.
  • Distribute letters, leaflets and incoming mail on a daily basis.
  • Allow access to other professionals and contractors requiring admittance to premises.
  • On a daily basis, work with and support residents to settle in their allocated accommodation and familiarise them with the facilities in the accommodation and the local community.
  • Assist in the move on of residents to alternative accommodation by use of the Council’s vehicles, subject to passing the Council’s driving test.
  • Responsible for dealing with any disputes or emergencies and completing incident reports.
  • Responsible for diffusing difficult or dangerous situations, summoning
    assistance when necessary, noting that trauma and distress displayed as
    abuse and aggression is commonplace in the Hostel management
    environment.

Working Hours: 09.00am – 17.15pm, Monday – Friday ( Some weekends if required)

Requirements

  • Ability to carry out minor repairs and maintenance.
  • Enhanced DBS
  • Ability to lift furniture, collect refuse and clean communal areas.
  • Experience of meeting all statutory and professional requirements of this
    post, e.g. Health and Safety, fire regulations, lone working, COSHH.
  • Experience of maintaining high standards of cleanliness in all areas of
    hostels.
  • Experience of maintaining a stock inventory of all furniture and fittings
    including cleaning materials for use in the standards of cleanliness in all
    areas of the Emergency Accommodation dwellings.
  • Experience of identifying repairs (major or minor) and carrying out minor
    repairs.
  • Experience of working effectively in an environment of constant change.
  • Must be able to work overtime during weekdays and weekends if required.
